It’s been over a year since COVID-19 has invaded our world and more than 40% of the workforce is still working from home. In many cases, Zoom fatigue set-in months ago. So, how do you get people to not only turn their cameras on during meetings but more importantly come out of their shells and interact with the other attendees? How do you ensure your meeting is more “rock and roll” and less “muzak?”
For this webinar, we were joined by Mark Gindick, professional Clown with Cirque Du Soleil, Ringling Brothers, and the Big Apple Circus, as well as Stephen Baer, managing partner of The Game Agency.
Mark shared 10 super practical ways to ensure your next Zoom meeting is engaging, fun, and interactive.
Let’s get into those 10 tips for better virtual meetings!
- Have Fun
- Make a Theme
- Play With Purpose
- Silence Is OK
- Go Fishing
- Play the Room
- Spin the Wheel
- Embrace Butterflies
- Be Yourself
(Editor’s note: there was an error in the slide numbering in the presentation deck. I have listed the tips in the chronological order they were presented, not the numbers that were shown on the slides.)
You can watch the recording below to hear all of Mark’s strategies for implementing each tip in your next Zoom meeting or conference call. We’ll talk about a few of these Zoom meeting tips here.
First—have fun! If you’re not having fun, your meeting attendees aren’t going to have fun either.
Whether you’re running a small department meeting or hosting a huge virtual conference, it can be tempting to lose yourself in stressing over logistical and technical details and the costs behind your event. However, it’s important to step back and enjoy the moment and make sure you AND your audience are having a good time.
Second, bring in elements of storytelling with a theme.
As Mark says, “the theme is essentially the content that you’re going to hang everything on.” Your audience will grab onto that story.
In the virtual world, you can do this by putting your attendees into the scene of an 80s quiz game show like the Jeopardy!® game from The Training Arcade®. You could even have attendees dress like the 80s to really immerse themselves in the theme.
Mark and Stephen shared more theme ideas in the webinar.
