Webinar: The New World of 'Live' Events - Learning in a Pandemic with VR

The New World of _Live_ Events - Learning in a Pandemic with VR

Do you depend on live events to deliver valuable learning experiences? When the coronavirus pandemic forced the Center for Information & Study on Clinical Research Participation (CISCRP) to cancel their live health fair in Chicago, they looked for a virtual reality solution.

Using CenarioVR®, CISCRP’s agency partner, Illumina Interactive, created an engaging virtual experience that felt REAL and earned high marks from exhibitors and attendees alike. In fact, the virtual solution was so successful that it drove a 66% increase in exhibitor signups for the next virtual health fair event, originally planned to be in-person in Philadelphia.

In our recent webinar, we were joined by Michael Getz, president of Illumina Interactive, and Ellyn Getz, the Associate Director of Development & Community Engagement for CISCRP. They shared the challenges of creating an immersive virtual reality health fair event in just 5 weeks and the strategies used.

How to Create Immersive Learning On a Tight Timeline

Use stock images.

To set the scene, stock images of conference halls and theaters were used, instead of trying to film on location. Using stock images or stock 360° video can be a great shortcut for virtual reality projects.

Illumina Interactive also used cutout people from the eLearning Brothers Cutout People Library for all the characters in the virtual health fair, from the guide welcoming visitors to the booth staff to bystanders and other virtual visitors in the background.

Add sound effects.

Stock audio clips from the eLearning Brothers Stock Asset Library were used to add background crowd effects. This helped people feel like they were really at a live event.

Build in CenarioVR.

“We chose CenarioVR for its ease of authoring and the ability to rapidly prototype and develop a fully robust immersive multi-platform VR experience,” said Michael Getz.

CenarioVR is incredibly user friendly with a short learning curve. There’s no programming necessary, so anyone can build a VR solution!

At the end of the webinar, John Blackmon, eLearning Brothers CTO, shared a quick demo of the new 3D model support in CenarioVR.

With 3D object support, now you can quickly add an object in GLB format that can be rotated in 3D space, positioned, and animated. Plus, you can use it as a hotspot to trigger animated movement, really bringing the online immersive experience to life.
