What Does It Take to Be an eLearning Rockstar

Becoming an eLearning ROCKSTAR™ is the start of an amazing world tour—one where you conquer roadblocks like too-short timelines, difficult subject matter experts, and tough to please stakeholders.

You want to create truly awesome training content that helps people do their jobs better. You’re just brimming with fresh ideas and learning techniques you want to try.

We’re here to help you do exactly that!

We want to give you the tools to become an eLearning ROCKSTAR.

Things like templates to help you cut down on development time, tips on how to storyboard courses so your stakeholders understand your vision, tons and tons of support articles and how-to videos, and the best tools to edit, deliver, and track your learning’s effectiveness.

What is an eLearning ROCKSTAR?

An eLearning ROCKSTAR is a true eLearning master who turns boring eLearning into content that’s delightful to look at, engaging, and drives behavior change. An eLearning ROCKSTAR draws learners in, makes training a memorable experience, and converts employees to diehard fans of online training. An eLearning ROCKSTAR is someone who creates and delivers training worthy of applause—and then helps others do the same.

You know you’re an eLearning ROCKSTAR when:

  • You’re developing interactive, immersive eLearning
  • You’ve cut down on how long it takes to build a course
  • Your stakeholders trust your ideas and your work
  • You’ve collected and analyzed the data to prove your training works
  • You’re working hard AND having fun

How do you become an eLearning ROCKSTAR?

Step 1: Learn as much as you can.

Get ready to rock and roll! Watch webinars and seek out “how-to” articles. Participate in discussion boards and ask questions. eLearning experts love to share their knowledge! There are tons of free resources online that can help you get started in eLearning and instructional design.

Step 2: Play around.

Sign up for a free trial of an asset library and kick off some practice jams. Dig into template source files to see how they’re made and try to recreate those interactions on your own. Challenge yourself to recreate cool animations or games as eLearning scenarios. This is a great way to build your portfolio even if you don’t have any clients or projects yet. Consider this your dress rehearsal before the big show. Test out your xAPI skills using a free LRS and experiment with tracking different activities.

Step 3: The apprentice becomes the master.

Now that you have a handle on how to create awesomeness, it’s time to help others. Start being the one who answers the questions on discussion boards. Apply to speak at conferences like eLBX Live, DevLearn, or an ATD event. Become a webinar guest presenter. The applause is coming—your fellow eLearning ROCKSTARS want to hear what you have to say!

Get out there and ROCK!
